I’ll never stop being thrilled at seeing my byline. Such a dream come true — and to think a couple years ago I was a financial analyst (blech!)!

So, this month you can find an article by me on fashion and Polaroid film in the totally rad, edgy and artistic VAR magazine. My article is first on the issue’s “Side A” (it’s a double sided issue)!

YEAHH! First in line!

Based out of NYC, it began as tattoo blog by Editor in Chief, Danny Michel, and has evolved fantastically into an art and fashion lifestyle magazine. Totally stoked about this contribution gig, especially judging from the first issue I’m in and the artistically supportive staff. Really looking forward to doing more work with VAR in the future.

This week has been SO nice with my younger art students, so many of them gave me drawings they did on their own as presents. So sweet! Aren’t they great? These four students who drew the four drawings below are awesome kids I look forward to seeing every week.

Speaking of teaching and art, ARTOMATIC STARTS THIS FRIDAY!! I don’t actually think I’ll make it to opening night because of a friend’s birthday party but I will definitely be there June 2 for Meet the Artist Night as will Coco — to answer all your questions! :)

Though I won’t be there Friday, I WILL be there this Saturday afternoon,  teaching a FREE Adult creative writing workshop. I’ll also be teaching a creative writing workshop for kids and a handmade books workshop later on in May and June. For more on the schedule of events check out the Events tab at Sinta Jimenez on Facebook!

OMG and so funny I found out that people have been pinteresting my hair and even an art project I did with Coco!

I have been so busy lately!! This month has just been non-stop and today I think I’ve had the first afternoon I’ve had in a while where I could catch up on computer work and do some “fun” things so I read books to a couple classes at my daughter’s school this morning and am finally writing a blog entry.

So I’m going to be a judge in The Miss Teen Philippines-America Beauty Pageant! I’m excited to do my best Miss J impersonation LOL! It’s for the Ilocano Society of America and my grandparents are from Ilocos-Sur, a province in the North. Speaking of my grandparents and beauty pageants my grandmother was a beauty pageant winner herself! This is a beautiful picture of her from the1930s from her pageant/modeling days.

Rest in Beauty Lola

It’s pretty cool, my whole family has been involved in this pageant in some form or another, so it’s finally my turn at the judicial table!

Also, updated my Fashion Journalism page with my latest articles. I actually just submitted my first article to a new magazine I’ll be contributing to, VAR Magazine. I’ll be in their upcoming print issue with one if not two feature articles!

Hopefully I’ll have time tomorrow to do a writeup on the Nordstrom Trend Show I attended this past weekend. It was a pretty good time, I got like three different makeovers lol!

Hey everyone I’ll be teaching another session of Adult Ed with the City of Gaithersburg, two studio art classes and two writing classes. Sign up today if you’d like to join one of my classes! :)

Registration is open to ALL, not just city residents. To register online (immediate registration) go HERE. Classes BEGIN APRIL 9, 2012.

This round I’ll be teaching:

  • Handmade Books and Paper Crafts (studio art class) – learn the ancient art of making books by hand. Learn traditional binding techniques such as Japanese Stab Binding and Coptic Book Binding. I will also teach how to make pamphlets and cards and other papercrafts by hand. Great for those who’d like to learn how to add a personal touch to party invitations, wedding hand outs, etc.
  • Linoleum Block Printing (studio art class) – A modern form of block printing similar to wood carved prints. A great art class on a classic art form which can be translated into the creation of handmade stationary, prints, cards, etc. I incorporate a lot of linoleum block printing in my own artwork and am very excited for this class!
  • Creative Writing - A creative and fun course which will teach the principles of strong storytelling, offer story building exercises and a workshop environment to help strengthen writing.
  • Blog Writing - For anyone interested in starting their own blog or looking for a resume building course to authenticate skills in writing for the web. Many companies use blogs and other social media to communicate and enhance their business, give yourself the edge! Also an ideal course for those who want to start a personal blog but don’t know how.

In the past couple weeks I got two packages from two friends, old and new, with awesome gifts!

I received a linocut print from Amsterdam-based artist Tony Coppin of a beautiful print called “Adam and Kaoru.”

I also got a gift from a friend in Tokyo of the inaugural Glossybox Japan box! It’s a special Christmas edition on top of being the first box. I will be posting a review in probably a month or so after using the products, very excited!

Speaking of Japan, I may be going to Japan at the end of the month for Tokyo Fashion Week! I registered as press a month ago on behalf of this blog and I’ve been receiving RSVPs to the shows and events! It’s exciting because if I do go to Tokyo Fashion Week it’ll be the first big event I’ll be covering exclusively for Hail to the Chic as a fashion blogger. I am waiting on a couple more invites to make the long overseas trip worth it… Got several more invites yesterday so in the next week I will be making my decision to go or not. It would be so nice to go to Japan though for fashion week as well as to see some old, dear friends. Crossing my fingers the RSVPs keep piling up!! :)
