I recently wrote an article for Asian-Fusion (“Collared Away” published January 4, 2012″) about the collar trend which first made a splash on runways this Spring and then got picked up in Japan and has just been raging as a trend. With my November issue of ViVi I got a free collar through the ViVi x Murua collaboration, a pretty velveteen and cloth lace thing. Exciting and rare as ViVi very rarely does collaborations or has giveaways.

Here’s a couple different coordinates I’ve already worn it with!

With A Marching Band-style Cardigan

With a Crew-neck Sweater

Crop jacket and knit shorts: UO, Knit: Alexander Wang, Tights: Anna Sui, Collar: Murua, Wood and leather platforms: Rodebjer

From this Japanese ブロガー Crooz blog… Also looks great just worn necklace-style with a tee or loose knit! I only just found this blog while looking up the Murua collaboration but I liked the pictures because it has a picture of her with her child while wearing it! LOL! Just like me, always with my kid…

It’s a very ladylike and posh trend. Collars are just so eyecatching and interesting and a welcome trend in fashion that has not paid much attention to collars for a while.

Scarf: Burberry, Coat: Urban Outfitters, Dress: Pringle of Scotland 1815, Hat: Albertus Swanepoel for Target, Suede Oxfords: Target

This crazy Albertus Swanepoel for Target hat reminds me of something an old man would be wearing in St. Petersburg. I went to Russia back in 2007~ish (?) and there were so many of these huge fur hats everywhere. I love how excessive it is. It is also very Upper West Side batty old rich woman. Wore it on a beautifully rainy day with a cashmere dress from Pringle of Scotland 1815 and an Urban Outfitters military style coat.

Pullover: J.Crew

Two posts in one day!!! I’m on a roll…

Had a happy and delicious Thanksgiving holiday and now wow December 1st, can’t believe it’s already here! To kick off the first day of Advent check out my 2011 Holiday gift guide for 3 special and specific people in your life! Loved writing it thinking about my kid brother, my best guy friends, and of course talking about children’s fashion (I think my real passion!!)… Speaking of best friends I’m going to Gotham for the first time in a long time next week to celebrate my friend Elliot’s dirrrty 3-0! We did a bit of travelling together when we were younger and in Argentina even got MATCHING leather motorcycle jackets. So nerdy but we couldn’t resist and Argentina has excellent leather products. Shopping in Argentina, years ago, was just amazing. I bought a whole Dior skincare set for 1/2 the USD amount — a textbook bankruptcy has marginal pros, 1/2 price couture is one!

So over Thanksgiving I saw the Muppets with all the kids in our family celebrating (2 SUVs full!!) and it was AMAZING. Viddy has an awesome new production pack featuring the Muppets characters that my daughter and I have been having so much fun with!

Yay Viddy!!

Speaking of the Muppets my gift guide also features a great Animal-related gift! I’ll very likely be writing an article on this Muppets x Opening Ceremony collab in further detail to be published next week. I’m just so glad the Muppets are coming back, really think those shows from when I was a kid were infinitely better than the so-called children’s entertainment today. I love you Janice and Kermit!!

Two more articles also published this week one on Stella McCartney at London Fashion Week 2012 and a Collagen Skincare Review. Been thinking a lot about fashion in England right now and just finished an article on Kim Jones’ BFA win for best menswear designer! His buffalo check scarves for Louis Vuitton were just sooo awesome!!

I think it may be time to have the wonderful and amazing Nicky 6 do another guest entry on HTTC. Said it quite a bit recently but again, I’m so thankful for him, that he is in my sister’s life, my family’s and my daughter’s.

Working on two articles right now in collaboration with my friends Andrea and Linda on their fashion projects — hopefully they’ll be done by the end of this week. Currently beginning preparation as well on dummies for my studio handmade books class this upcoming winter session and am so thankful my very talented cousin, Bridgette Guerzon Mills, has agreed to send one of her beautiful handmade books to show to my students. Let’s see what else? I haven’t taken many outfit snaps recently but whenever I get the chance I’ve been working in this long satin maxi skirt!! It might be one of my favorite items this winter. Paired with a dolman asymmetrical sweater = new favorite going out coordinate. This pics aren’t full length shots but the only ones I have in the satin maxi from an ultra hip downtown dinner celebrating the double birthdays of my darling daughter and beautiful friend, Anna early in November! The company was great, thanks to dearest Lila for the pics!!

The birthday girls!

Cuckoo crazy for this suede belt by super chic French brand Sessun which can be worn obi style, tied simply, or as in the pictures below in a bow and probably in another handful of ways I’ve yet to discover. Here it compliments the earthy tones already present in this coordinate of a silken olive tank and a linen floral print skirt. Moccasins are pink beaded Minnetonkas. Pictures taken after a happy sunset playground visit which our little family has been doing these days in the Valley so that Dad gets some playtime with his girl too. It was a momentus evening as our girl went down the slide by herself for the first time – getting more adventurous and truly kid-like everyday! Spotted an ice cream truck coming around and it was SO nice to see, remembering all my childhood memories… and just when I thought such things had disappeared from a “modern” child’s life…

And though I’m not a fan of the hand on hip pose as it is mostly overused quite obviously by girls with fat/husky arms I do have to showcase the side bow tie of the belt here!

Upclose…

Sessun is one of my favorite brands right now but it’s clear the creative vision behind the brand is on point, they’ve got Mazzy Star playing on the frontpage of their website, Fade Into You!!! Ahhh!!
